The documentation of black women's voices is paramount to our American history. For decades, it's been difficult to preserve the stories of black people. Not due to the lack of documentation, due to planned erasure of our experiences. Despite the challenges faced in sharing African American stories and contributions. Over the last decade, I've witnessed an emergence of historical documentation of black life. Learning new stories, our personal experiences and contributions to American society.  As a black woman, and visual storyteller. I understand first hand, why it's so important for oral and written documentation of our experiences to be historically documented and preserved for future generations.  "In Our Own Words", is a personal project, documenting black women's responses to the following question. "How are you feeling in this moment? As Kamala Harris becomes the first woman of Black & Indian heritage to become Vice President of the United States of America. {Your replies do not need to favor a political party or candidate, what I’m after is documenting your thoughts/feelings.}" The importance of gathering an individual's perspective during a historic event, holds a powerful significance that will outlive the short time the historical event took place. With that said, I would like to introduce you to 5 beautiful black women, from young womanhood to matured womanhood, who, kindly, shared their stories with me.  Humbly and in full gratitude, I thank each of you. -Teanna
